In addition to celebrating Timely Comics’ 70th anniversary, Marvel in 2009 launched seven one shots all with the prefix: “Captain America: Theater of War.”

 Like the Timely Comics one-shot, each has a different creative team (but Paul Jenkins writes several issues).  None of the issues connect and none “matter” in terms of content adding to the mythology.  But, hey, there’s a great movie out so…Why not?  

I shouldn’t be sarcastic–several of them are solid stories.  I read them all and didn’t feel like I wanted that time back.  At the same time, there’s not much to say about them here.  

One special note:  The issue titled “America First!” features a story about the William Burnside version of Captain America, who took over during the Eisenhower years.

We don’t see much of him, so that’s cool.
