Jonathan Hickman is about to start a truly historic and groundbreaking run on Fantastic Four. But first we have to get through his inessential Dark Reign tie-in. It’s got some ideas that will be key to his run on the series, but largely it’s just set up.

Like the team moving back into the Baxter Building, and having doombots do the work for them.
Once back home, Reed Richards creates “The Bridge,” which allows the team to travel to alternate realities and explore the consequences of major decisions before putting them into action in Earth 616.

But Norman Osborn’s HAMMER agents bust in and cut the power to the Baxter Building.

This strands the adults in various alternate realities while Valeria and Franklin fight off Osborn’s stormtroopers.

After some mildly amusing multiverse adventures, the grown-ups come back and stop the big meanie Norm from hurting the kids.

So, does this matter? Well, we now have The Bridge. Franklin and Valeria are older and capable of doing science-y things to defend themselves. Reed wants to fix everything. Oh, and the interdemensional council of Reeds appears too.
The seeds for Hickman’s run are planted, even if this series is not the best advertisement for his run on FF. It all feels kinda flat and mediocre here.
