The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: Jar Jar #1, on sale this week from Marvel Comics

Ahmed Best's Jar Jar Binks is clearly one of the most controversial figures in the history of Star Wars, but that was just because the character, who debuted in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, received such a horrific backlash at just the same time that the internet became such a major part of fandom, and so the more vicious parts of fandom, which likely always existed, now had a way to proliferate and amplify their voice. Best took it personally, and it affected his personal life in a very traumatic way.

Luckily, the actor moved past it, and even returned to the Star Wars universe as a Jedi character named Kelleran Beq, who ended up playing a key role on The Mandalorian as the Jedi who actually saved Grogu from the infamous Order 66. Now, Best is working with star writer Marc Guggenheim for a new one-shot starring Jar Jar Binks that will include Kelleran Beq, and CBR has an exclusive preview of the two characters meeting for the first time!

In the preview pages, we see Senator Jar Jar Binks on a mysterious mission. He is on the planet Urubai, in the large, bustling metropolis of Quarrant City. Jar Jar is here to visit an ambassador about his mission. Note that, at this point in time, Jar Jar is best known as the Senator who helped push through emergency powers for Chancellor Palpatine, which Palpatine obviously used to become EMPEROR Palpatine, and begin the Empire.

This appears to be set at a period when those facts are not yet known to everyone, but as we have seen on Andor, there were obviously whispers about Palpatine before he ever got granted his emergency powers, and it appears as though Jar Jar's mission on Urubai will lead to him finding out JUST how much he screwed up.

Jar Jar is mugged soon after landing on Urabai, as he tried to find the ambassador on his own. He is saved when the mugger is suddenly frightened away. Jar Jar believes that he has frightened the man himself, but in reality, it is the Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, who did it.

Beq greets Jar Jar, and he almost certainly knows the reason why Jar Jar is here. Knowing that Beq is the Jedi who later saves Grogu, it is possible that the information he learns in this issue is what led to him being there to save Grogu when Order 66 is given.

But to find out if that's the case, you'll have to pick up a copy of Star Wars: Jar Jar #1 next week!
