Kate Beckinsale Slams Mark Ruffalo Over Palestine Activism

Actress Kate Beckinsale is calling out what she sees as a double standard in Hollywood after claiming she was dropped by her talent agent for supporting pro-ceasefire posts online while actor Mark Ruffalo faced no backlash for his outspoken pro-Palestinian activism.

In a now deleted post on Instagram, Beckinsale said it was “nice not to be fired by your agent for liking a post about a ceasefire and not supporting the murdering of children,” referring to Ruffalo, who has publicly urged ceasefire and criticized Israel’s military actions. She then suggested his gender shielded him from consequences. “I guess having a penis in Hollywood really counts for a lot,” Beckinsale wrote. “You’ve not been fired by the same agent that I had, and she sent me a gift the week before, so we didn’t have any beef.”

Beckinsale connected the timing of her termination with actress Susan Sarandon’s firing from the same agency. Both decisions came shortly after the actors’ strike ended, leaving many in the industry already struggling to regain footing. The Underworld star said she merely liked a UNICEF post calling for mercy for children, adding that Sarandon had been publicly vocal with street protests in New York, which Beckinsale had not joined.

She also shared deeply personal details about family tragedies she faced at the time, including caring for her mother, who had terminal brain cancer, and handling the death of her stepfather after a stroke. “I was fired in two sentences after twelve years of friendship with my agent,” Beckinsale wrote. “Applaud your voice and your activism, but the price you pay for having a vagina while even remotely liking a post asking for mercy for children and babies by UNICEF caused me to be fired and you not.”

Beckinsale said she privately messaged Ruffalo months ago seeking his support but was ignored. “At least it is to me and other female actors and women’s advocate groups,” she concluded in the emotional post.

The Everybody’s Fine actress previously criticized Hollywood for sexism and exploitative behavior, recounting in 2024 that she was once “forced by a publicist to do a photo shoot the day after I’d had a miscarriage.” Despite her track record as a bankable star, Beckinsale’s latest comments add to rising tension in Hollywood about gender bias and political expression. The controversy highlights what some see as an uneven tolerance for activism depending on who’s speaking—and whether their views align with industry norms.
