MARCO SPEAKS SPIDEY: The Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day #3 Review

There is something wonderfully nostalgic about opening a Spider-Man comic and immediately finding Dexter Bennett, Robbie Robertson, Mister Negative, the Inner Demons, Yuri Watanabe, and even the old D.B. building waiting inside. The Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day #3 does not merely borrow the title of that earlier Spider-Man era—it genuinely feels like Dan Slott has reopened one of its forgotten filing cabinets and discovered that several unfinished stories were still hiding inside. This issue picks up with the corrupted Punisher attacking the D.B. headquarters in his heavily armed helicopter. Frank Castle wants the Lexicon, the secret ledger Spider-Man has been using to expose New York’s criminal underworld, and he is perfectly willing to tear through the building—and everyone inside—to get it. Spider-Man survives the opening assault because he has practically turned the upper floors into one gigantic web bunker. That visual alone establishes the scale of the sequence.
