Review: Star Wars Visions: The Ninth Jedi Episode 2

When one thinks about Star Wars, there are some things that naturally come to mind. I think of the Force and lightsabers, the tools of the Jedi and Sith. There are also space fighters and alien vistas that seem Earth-like. Let’s not forget the Death Star, the planet-cracking superweapon. The Ninth Jedi has revealed its take on the trope in Episode 2, “The Hidden Weapon.” C’mon, you knew it was only a matter of time. Be advised: there will be spoilers. Let’s dive into this episode. The episode begins with Padawan Kara and Master Juro training with remotes à la A New Hope. Oh, look—she can fight against two of them! Kara is troubled by her encounter with Gennoh the Sith and wonders why her father would choose to make lightsabers for them. Juro does his best to allay her fears. The protagonists then make their way to the next planet, Bibin, a former Jedi stronghold, where they hope to pick up their next party member and learn more about the pasts of both Juro and Kara’s father. This is where another anime trope hammers home the heavy anime influence: asteroid-mining space dwarves and elegant, planet-dwelling space elves.
