Sony is reportedly asking game developers whether ending physical PlayStation discs could create problems, even as the company says it will move ahead with a digital-only future for new games starting in January 2028. The reported survey comes after months of pushback from players, collectors, retailers, and developers concerned about what happens when physical media disappears. Sony has not confirmed the survey or announced any change to its policy, but the company appears to be checking whether the move could hurt the business it says it is trying to modernize. Tom of Moore’s Law Is Dead said on the Broken Silicon Podcast that sources told him Sony sent developers an unusually large survey. He said one question appeared designed to gather opinions on the company’s plan to stop selling new games on discs. “There is a survey Sony sent out to developers that is, what I was told by my contacts, a bigger survey than they’ve sent almost ever before, if not ever before,” Tom said. He added that the survey included a question asking, indirectly, whether there was “an issue with how we sell games physically,” which he described as Sony seeking feedback on “killing discs.” RTX 6090 Launch ...
