The Phantom v2 #68, 1975 - A female lion-tamer and her anthropomorphic beasts are suspected of various crimes before the Phantom intervenes. On his second issue of the series, Don Newton delivers another equally splendid effort. Figures and faces are well drawn against detailed backgrounds of dense jungle. Each panel is infused with beautiful brushwork, in a style similar to Bernie Wrightson but more delicate. Most impressive is the battle scene on the center spread, its borderless format suggesting a vastness beyond the pages. Other artists in this issue include Frank Bolle. This story was reprinted in Phantom: The Complete Series, The Charlton Years #5.
