Why Pierce Brosnan’s Say’s He’s Done Talking About James Bond

Pierce Brosnan may be open to considering an older version of James Bond, but he does not want to dwell on 007’s Christmas traditions. In a recent interview with The Times, the actor touched on a range of topics, and Bond remained a recurring theme. When recently asked if Bond would enjoy Christmas, Brosnan replied, “Of course, he would enjoy Christmas.” When pressed about whether Bond’s perceived aloofness might lead him to skip the holiday, he declined to answer, adding “I don’t really want to answer the question, and I’m not going to answer the question. Because I couldn’t give a f-ck! Why would I waste my time thinking about where James Bond would be at Christmas?”

Brosnan later apologized for his blunt remark, saying, “I’m sorry for not being able to help you with James Bond. It’s something that’ll go on until the day is done.” He suggested that questions about Bond can grow tiresome for actors who played the role years earlier.

The interview also covered the broader topic of the franchise, including the sale of Bond to Amazon and who might portray the character next. Brosnan said that he is not the only former Bond actor who finds it difficult to answer questions about the role. He added, “Sean Connery was the same: ‘Don’t ever ask!’ But, you know, I’m as excited as the next man or woman to find out who’s going to play that role again. It’s always exciting. I loved Sean, I loved Roger Moore, Daniel Craig is amazing, and Tim Dalton was amazing, too.”

Brosnan’s stance on discussing Bond has not changed his status as a prominent figure in the franchise’s history. He remains a respected voice among 007 fans who track the evolution of the character and the actors who have portrayed him. Looking ahead, Brosnan did not entirely rule out further public commentary on the Bond saga, though he indicated his primary focus remains on his own projects. He did express interest in future collaborations that align with his interests, including a possible role in the Mark Millar adaptation of the graphic novel that envisions a much older version of a Bond-like central figure.
