Annie Banks is a Rotten Tomatoes–approved critic, and CBR editor and writer specializing in anime, comics, and superheroes. Her work has also appeared in Collider and The Mary Sue, where she covered pop culture, fandoms, and entertainment trends. A lifelong fan whose love for storytelling began with Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Annie blends critical insight with genuine passion for geek culture, from sci-fi to K-pop.

Adventure Time is making yet another comeback and is bringing two fan-favorite characters along for its much-awaited return.

While Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the Vampire Queen have reunited before, the couple will be given an even greater spotlight this summer. Per Screen Rant, "Oni Press has officially released its June solicitations, and among them is a teaser for writer Rosie Knight (Godzilla: Monster Island Summer Camp) and artist Evgenia Verel’s Adventure Time Pride Special: PB & Marcy's Infinite Mixtape #1 (2026). The spinoff marks the first-ever Adventure Time Pride special and will serve as the franchise’s way of celebrating alongside millions of others during Pride Month, which takes place throughout the entire month of June."

Unlike other Adventure Time spinoffs that have manifested after the mainline series reached its final episode, Adventure Time Pride Special: PB & Marcy's Infinite Mixtape #1 takes the fresh approach of treating its readers as if they're fans of Princess Bubblegum and Marceline's band, Scream Queens. “Congratulations! You're a top listener of the Scream Queens, and we have a special treat: lead singer Marceline the Vampire Queen and her girlfriend, Princess Bubblegum, have created a brand-new, never-before-heard mixtape commemorating their anniversary," the comic's official synopsis reads, "But what happens when a rewind through memory lane makes them realize that they've been looking at things through rose-colored glasses? Are they really that out of tune—or is someone else playing them like a fiddle?”

Adventure Time has taken great care when approaching how sapphic relationships have been seen across its universe, understanding that the queer representation shown by Princess Bubblegum and Marceline must be treated with importance while reflecting the realism of LGBTQIA+ people existing outside of fiction. Queer representation has always been a necessary aspect of entertainment media, and the creative team behind Adventure Time Pride Special: PB & Marcy's Infinite Mixtape #1 seems prepared to uphold the integrity that the original series crafted for the couple's relationship.

Adventure Time Was An Integral Part Of 2010s Pop Culture

Adventure Time's arrival in April 2010 changed the new age of pop culture for an entire generation. Not quite crafted for children while still refraining from being overtly adult, Adventure Time was as strange and intentionally odd as it was heartfelt. The Land of Ooo was brought to life by interesting inhabitants, divided into several different kingdoms that were illustrated by their own quirky nuances. Pendleton Ward was wildly successful in ensuring that Adventure Time's swath of unforgettable characters were synonymous with Cartoon Network's brand identity, ensuring that main characters such as Finn the Human, Jake the Dog, and BMO were perceived as pop culture icons.

Following the original series' finale in 2018, Adventure Time: Distant Lands continued to build upon the mainline universe's canon, while Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake explored the animated series' alternative multiverse through more adult storytelling. The upcoming preschool-age Heyo Bemo spinoff will reintroduce Adventure Time to a much younger audience.

Adventure Time Pride Special: PB & Marcy's Infinite Mixtape #1 officially releases on June 3 from Oni Press.
