Fans of Resident Alien are revisiting the series in record numbers on one of the biggest premium video-on-demand platforms. This comes after the show's untimely cancellation.

Per FlixPatrol, Resident Alien starring Alan Tudyk has officially taken the number five spot on the list of the top series currently available via VOD on iTunes. As of the time of writing, Resident Alien sits just behind It: Welcome to Derry on the charts, and may be moving up soon as its biggest competition continues to slip down the rankings.

Created for television by Chris Sheridan and based on Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse's Dark Horse Comics series of the same name, Resident Alien stars Alan Tudyk as Harry Vanderspeigle. Or rather, the series stars Tudyk as the interstellar alien who crashed on Earth and took Doctor Vanderspiegle's appearance in the hopes of blending in.

Alongside Tudyk, Resident Alien stars Sara Tomko as the doctor's assistant Asta Twelvetrees, Meredith Garretson as schoolteacher Kate Hawthorne, Levi Fiehler as Kate's husband and town mayor Ben, Judah Prehn as Kate and Ben's son, Max, who can see Harry's true form, Elizabeth Bowen as deputy Olivia Baker, and Alice Wetterlund as pub owner D'arcy Bloom. Resident Alien also features a recurring and guest cast that includes Linda Hamilton, Sarah Podemski, Gary Farmer, and Nathan Fillion.

Upon its release in 2021, Resident Alien was met with rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. As of the time of writing, Resident Alien holds a near-perfect 98% "Fresh" rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, with individual seasons holding critical scores ranging from 94% to 100%. Resident Alien also holds an 88% audience-generated "Popcornmeter" score.

Over the course of its run on television, Resident Alien amassed 44 episodes across four seasons, the first three of which premiered on Syfy before the series was broadcast on both Syfy and USA Network for its fourth and final season. The series finale of Resident Alien premiered on Aug. 8, 2025.

The True Ending of Resident Alien Is Yet to Come

While the Resident Alien television series has come to a close, the original comic book saga is still months away from doing the same. Currently, fans can look forward to the release of the series' grand finale, Resident Alien: One More for the Road by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, on April 15.

The one-shot finale will find Harry working to keep his loved ones safe while others from his home planet try to convince the nations of Earth to push the planet to join the Circle of Worlds. Writer and co-creator Peter Hogan recently discussed how Resident Alien: One More for the Road will bring the overarching narrative full circle and call back to Harry's earliest days on Earth.

"At the very beginning of this story, Harry Vanderspeigle was lying low because he was scared about what might happen to him if he got caught," Hogan explained. "His own race had warned him just how dangerous Earth people could be. Now we're going to find out just how right they were."

Resident Alien is currently available via rent or purchase on iTunes.
