Lilo and Stitch is fast approaching its 25th anniversary, and right on the heels of its billion-dollar "live action" remake last year, the characters have become the stars of a few different comic book series for Dynamite Entertainment. However, later this year, there is another special date in mind for Stitch, in particular, and Dynamite is going to be launching a brand-new series based around that special date!
You see, before Lilo named the lovable (but mischievous) alien, Stitch, he was known as Experiment 626 by Doctor Jumba Jookiba, and, wouldn't you know it, this June will be June 2026, or 6/26, and Dynamite will be celebrating that date with a brand-new Lilo and Stitch anthology series called Lilo and Stitch 626, which will amusingly enough NOT launch in June 2026, but in May, instead (so that its middle issue will be released during 6/26).
What will the first issue of Lilo and Stitch 626 be about?
Image via DynamiteDynamite has revealed the details for the first issue, which, despite seemingly just referencing Stitch, in particular, the series will actually be spotlighting a number of characters within the greater Lilo and Stitch universe of characters.
For instance, according to the Dynamite press release about the first issue, "Critically acclaimed wordsmith Daniel Kibblesmith, following from his fan-favorite run with Darkwing Duck, takes on the little mischief alongside artist Elisa Pochetta. The pair unveil for the first time to fans the secret origin of Agent Cobra Bubbles — or at least Lilo's interpretation of it!
Then, another Disney X Dynamite legend in the making takes on the second story, as George Kambadais writes and draws a tale of Captain Gantu stranded on an Old West-styled planet all by himself, surrounded by dangerous criminals from his past!"
Who are some of the creators who will be part of this new series?
Dynamite also revealed the creators who will be working on future issues of the series, as well as the different Lilo and Stitch characters that will be getting the spotlight in this anthology series. The other characters getting a spotlight will include Nani, Jumba, Pleakley, David, Mertle, and more.
As for the creators involved in the second and third issues of the series, Dynamite has revealed so far that we will be seeing work from Moana McAdams, Chuck Brown (Disney Villains: Scar, Bitter Root), Jeff Parker (Negaduck, Thunderbolts), Edwin Galmon (The Lion King, Mister Terrific), Miriana Puglia, Emiliana Pinna, and Giulia Giacomino.
One of the things that is the mark of a major fandom is when little "holidays" like these ones pop up naturally. Any time a specific date is mentioned in a movie, there are little mini-celebrations when that date comes across (like when April 25th comes around, Miss Congeniality fans celebrate the "Perfect Date," and when October 3rd rolls around, Mean Girls fans are ready to celebrate the day that Aaron Samuels asked Cady Heron what the date was, and, of course, Back to the Future fans will always remember October 21st), so it is fun to see Lilo and Stitch fans get 626 Day IN 6/26 this year!
Lilo and Stitch 626 #1 is set to be released In May.
