Review: Amazon’s ‘Fallout’ Season 2 Episode 7 ‘The Handoff’

1 week ago 21

This is it. The home stretch for this season’s ride into The Wasteland. With one more episode to go after our current episode, it is proper etiquette for secrets to be revealed, mysteries to be solved, and true to this show’s form, leave us more questions to anticipate answers to. How else can we justify a 3rd season? The character arcs are all converging back to New Vegas for the final conflict. All that said, this show continues to be a fun ride for me and with the end of season payoffs, there will be some spoilers. C’mon, the internet starts posting pictures as soon as these episodes drop! Ahem. Let us proceed.

We start with the reveal of Stephanie Harper’s (Annabel O’Hagan) origins. I should feel pity for her, but honestly, she’s made enough bad karma choices that it’s hard to sympathize. She’s high on my list of least-favorite characters, and like many dwellers, her storyline has felt weak. Hopefully, the finale can redeem that.

Lucy’s future and Cooper’s past finally collide as her arc comes to its head. Hank’s vision for the world is definitely appealing—but at what cost to humanity? Who wouldn’t want world peace? Then again, free will is apparently a “small price” for madmen chasing utopia. Once again, Fallout plays with moral trade-offs and philosophical tension. Lucy’s still trying to have her cake and eat it too, and that can only lead to disaster. Hang in there, Lucy.

Thaddeus and Maximus accept their pact with The Ghoul – to rescue Lucy in exchange for helping Cooper reach the one man who might reunite him with his family. Maximus has come full circle, now wearing some glorious NCR-branded power armor for the final battles and being the beacon of hope he always wanted to be. Hopefully McFarlane Toys gives us a figure soon. Then again, knowing Bethesda, expect it to show up as a $9.00 Fallout 4 DLC. As for Thaddeus, he’s struggling to hold on to normalcy, and the changes he’s going through will only make that harder. I just hope he doesn’t turn into a centaur. He deserves better.

You’re probably tired of me praising the handling of easter eggs, but I can only tell you what I see. They continue do a fine job. With the MacGuffin installed, Cooper boots up Mr. House’s console.I have to say that I was expecting Yes Man to reveal his digitized sycophantic smile, especially after seeing the dead securitron next to Mr. House’s console. You had me going show. What a great cliff-hanger.

Time for one last roll of the dice for this great season. See you for the finale.
