Cyberpunk 2077: Chrome #1 was published back in January, with the second issue following on March 11. The third issue is planned to be released on May 20, and it’s already teasing some pretty major developments for fans of the hit roleplaying game. Cyberpunk 2077: Chrome is set to conclude with its fourth issue in July, with Dark Horse having already announced a complete collected trade paperback to follow in November.
Cyberpunk 2077: Chrome is the Perfect Sequel to the Hit Game
Dark Horse’s solicit for the first issue of Cyberpunk 2077: Chrome teases how the new ‘dark horror’ story is set in the world of the video game. It’s also a close collaboration with the game’s developer, CD Projekt Red. “A group of friends including a netrunner, a fire graffiti artist, an aspiring rockerboy, and an autotechie set off for a fun photoshoot at a landfill, where among heaps of rubbish, scrap, and metal, they’ll find a shot to die for! Rumor has it the place is haunted, and they’re about to find out, in Night City, there are things far more frightening than ghosts.”
March’s second issue saw a mysterious killer hunting the group of friends, forcing them to seek refuge with a ruthless gang known as the Scavengers. Next month’s issue will see the lore of the Scavengers expanding even further, with Dark Horse’s teaser for the issue revealing: “As each survivor’s part in this savage game of cat-and-mouse is decided, they’ll discover the true motives of those who roam the landfill and the everlasting horror that will remain.”
When July rolls around, Chrome's story will reach a fever pitch as the Scavengers and the killer go head-to-head in what Dark Horse describes as a “bloodbath of fury.” With the story set in Cyberpunk 2077's fictional metropolis of Night City, fans will get to be drawn into a familiar world, all while new horrors begin to unfold.
Dark Horse further teases the story as a "slasher" story, proving that the hit video game’s massive dystopian world has plenty of exciting stories to tell, well beyond its action/RPG video game’s storyline. Chrome joins other Cyberpunk 2077 stories from Dark Horse, including Trauma Team, Big City Dreams, and Blackout.
A New Cyberpunk VR Game is Also On the Way
Image via CD Projekt REDWhile Cyberpunk 2077: Chrome gives fans of the franchise the perfect chance to jump into new stories on the page, a new entry into the video game saga is also planned for later this year. It was recently announced that CD Projekt Red was collaborating with Zero Latency VR to release a VR game based on Cyberpunk 2077 that explores Night City.
The new game is not planned as just a VR version of the 2020 video game, but instead will transport players directly into Night City and let them explore the world in a brand-new adventure that is teased as “built for freedom, intensity, and unique shared moments.” More details about Cyberpunk 2077’s entry into the VR realm are expected to emerge in the coming months.
Cyberpunk 2077: Chrome #1 and #2 are available now from Dark Horse Comics, with the third issue set to hit comic book shops on May 20.
