The following contains major spoilers for Amazing X-Men #3, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
One iconic Marvel Comics character is keeping a secret that could change the future of the X-Men for years to come.
After a brutal encounter with Revelation's Seraphim, the eponymous heroes of Amazing X-Men #3 (by Jed MacKay, Mahmud Asrar, Matthew Wilson, and VC's Clayton Cowles) finally reunite with their fellow freedom fighters holed up beneath Philadelphia. There, the heroes catch up and share intel, with Cyclops showing a particular interest in how Magneto was cured of his Resurrection-Linked Degeneration Syndrome. According to Wiz-Kid, however, Magneto never suffered from such an ailment, a claim that carries some serious implications in both the future and the present.

The concept of Resurrection-Linked Degenerative Syndrome, or R-LDS, came into prominence in the pages of Marvel Comics near the end of the Krakoan Era. During Krakoa's short-lived heyday, Magneto was frequently seen throwing himself headlong into lethal scenarios, always willing to sacrifice his own life if it meant winning another fight and being able to resurrect afterwards.
Unfortunately, it wasn't long before the physical and mental toll that being brought back to life over and over again took on Magneto became readily apparent. It was in 2024's X-Men #7 by Jed MacKay and Netho Diaz when readers saw Magneto completely lose control of his abilities due to the effects of R-LDS on his system, forcing Cyclops to knock him out with an optic blast. At the time, it seemed as though R-LDS could be a lasting issue for mutants across the globe, though Cyclops' latest revelation could very well disprove all of that.
Set ten years into the future of the Marvel Universe, the Age of Revelation finds the former mutant hero Doug Ramsey, now the heir to Apocalypse known as Revelation, lording over a vast swathe of North America in the hopes of ushering in a new utopian era for mutantkind. Through his legions of Seraphim and Choristers, Revelation spreads his message as far as possible, largely without resistance.
Of course, there are still plenty of holdouts spattered across the planet, with the likes of the Amazing X-Men just being the foremost of those willing to fight back against Revelation and his armies. Writer Jed MacKay previously discussed the scale and scope of the Age of Revelation, noting that "The stories unfolding in the Revelation Territories and beyond will decide whether this is the dawn of a new world, or the end of one. We've been exploring a whole world, and it's been really exciting to see other creators make corners of it their own!"
