Daredevil #116-119 and #500 (2009)

These issues tell Kingpin’s story after his fall from power and return. We see that after being taken down, he flees to Spain where he is taken in by a kind family who are then slaughtered by the Hand.  In the aftermath, Lady Bullseye tells Fisk that Daredevil is connected to the Hand’s attack.

Kingpin returns to America, where he visits Josie’s Bar to recruit a gang and gets Turk Barrett to contact Daredevil for a meet.

As for Daredevil, he gets a warning from Master Izo that the Hand are coming for him.

Daredevil finds himself pulled back into Kingpin’s world.

When he and Kingpin meet face to face, Fisk offers his enemy a partnership: To team up against the Hand.

This leads to another falling out between Matt and Foggy, who can’t believe that his best friend would team up with their arch-enemy.  Dakota North, too, retreats from her association with Daredevil.

Kingpin uses The Owl as bait to trick Lady Bullseye into killing various underworld leaders who stand in the way of Kingpin’s return, while Daredevil and Master Izo begin attacking Hand hideouts.

Murdock eventually figures out that Kingpin has been using him to take down the Hand while Fisk mapped out his return to power, and this leads to the big Daredevil #500 celebration.

That issue goes into the ancient history of The Hand, showing that Master Izo was a founding member before he left to form The Chaste.  Izo was the person who sent Stick to train Matt Murdock as a young boy.

The Owl kidnaps Dakota North, Daredevil rescues her and, with a sword, cripples Owsley.  Lord Hirochi is killed.  Black Tarantula and White Tiger, who have been working with The Hand, are restored as heroes.  BT was a double agent all along and White Tiger is freed from Hand mind control.  The big showdown has Fisk offering to lead The Hand but Murdock stepping forward and instead saying that he should be their new leader.

The story ends with Foggy getting a letter from Murdock, telling him that he is going away, while Murdock prepares for his “trial” to lead the Hand.

Matt Murdock also finally ends the storyline with his wife Milla, giving up his custody over her so that she can return to her parents and leave this series (I think forever?).

Thus, Daredevil has not only been brought back into the world of Kingpin–he’s now going to become leader of The Hand, from whom Kingpin hired Elektra so long ago.

Bullseye and Daredevil do battle in a back-up story in #500 by Ann Nocenti and David Aja, followed by a reprinted story and some pin-ups.
