After making his debut as the Man of Steel this past summer, David Corenswet is set to continue shaping the future of Superman across multiple DC Studios projects. In a recent interview with W Magazine, Corenswet reflected on his journey into the iconic role and discussed the creative philosophy that guided his portrayal - one that audiences will see continue in the years ahead.

Corenswet's performance marked a return to a hopeful, optimistic Superman, a direction he shared early on with director James Gunn. "[Gunn] was quoted saying he was hoping to do a bright, optimistic, hopeful take on the character, which happened to align with my hopes for Superman," Corenswet said. That shared vision became the foundation for a portrayal centered on compassion, sincerity, and moral clarity.

In the W Magazine interview, Corenswet also revisited the unexpectedly grounded process of auditioning for such a legendary role. "Yes, I put myself on tape... My agent said something like, 'Even the Oscar winners are having to tape,' but I heard it as 'David, you're up against some Oscar winners,' which was not particularly helpful," he recalled, underscoring the pressure and scale of the casting process.

The moment he learned he had been cast as Superman came without theatrical celebration, but with quiet resolve. "No. I very rarely scream. One of the reasons I'm an actor is to get some opportunities to scream. I was very calm, and I immediately felt relief, because at that point I knew I had a job for the next few years." That sense of stability has since translated into a portrayal defined by restraint, confidence, and emotional balance.

Looking ahead, Corenswet's Superman will continue to play a central role in the evolving DC cinematic universe. He is set to return as the Man of Steel in the upcoming "Supergirl" film, expanding the character's presence within a broader interconnected story. Corenswet will also reprise the role in "Man of Tomorrow", the direct follow-up to Superman, currently scheduled for release on June 9, 2027.
