The long-running rumors about a new Power Rangers series are now confirmed. MovieWeb reports that Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, the showrunners behind Disney’s fantasy series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, are developing a reboot of the famous superhero action franchise.

During the blue carpet event for the upcoming second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which premieres its first two episodes on December 10 on Disney+, MovieWeb asked Shotz if the reports were true. He didn’t give many details but admitted there was some truth to the story. “(Laughs) You are asking questions that you know I can’t answer,” Shotz said. “Let’s just say we very much hope to bring that story to life, so that’s all I can say at this point.”

Steinberg was more direct. He confirmed their involvement with only a few words: “The rumor is true.” He did not clarify if the show will bring back the original team of Jason, Zack, Billy, Trini, and Kimberly, or introduce new characters. Still, he added, “I can not tell you, but I am very, very excited for that story.”

Reports about the reboot first appeared in March. Early information suggested that Shotz and Steinberg were writing, producing, and running the series with backing from Hasbro, which owns the Power Rangers brand. At that time, sources described the project as a new version designed to attract younger viewers while honoring longtime fans of the franchise.

It remains unclear whether the new show will reboot the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers or take a different path. What is now certain is that Disney+ will host the project, and the creative team behind Percy Jackson and the Olympians is officially leading it.

As news of the reboot spreads, Steinberg and Shotz are also preparing for the season two launch of Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+ on December 10, 2025.
