Image Comics has just announced its next comic book series that can't be missed.

Per an Image Comics press release, "Superstar artist and rising star writer Lorenzo de Felici (Oblivion Song, Void Rivals, Kroma) highly anticipated ongoing series, Red Roots, will launch with a slew of eye-popping variant covers by such high-flyers as Ryan Ottley (Invincible), Mike Mignola (Hellboy), Luana Vecchio (Lovesick), Riley Rossmo (The Moon is Following Us), and Jason Howard (The Astounding Wolf-Man). This pulse-pounding new adventure will kick off in April from Image Comics."

Robert Kirkman, celebrated for titles such as Invincible and The Walking Dead, has said that "Red Roots is the shining example of what comics can be at their best. A wholly original concept with characters you are instantly invested in as they traverse a story with twists and turns you could never predict. This is the comic series you’ve been waiting your whole life for."

Image Comics offers a bit of background on de Felici's prominence in the comic book industry. In the same press release for Red Roots, the publishing house explained that "de Felici rose to prominence with the launch of Oblivion Song—his co-creation with Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead)—and his subsequent success as the artist on the tentpole Energon Universe title, also with Kirkman, Void Rivals. De Felici and Kirkman's creative alchemy set the Energon Universe on a path to sales-chart domination, and Void Rivals in-and-of-itself went on to become one of the biggest launches of 2024. It is currently on its 12th reprint with no signs of slowing down in momentum. This recent breakout success makes de Felici's upcoming solo series one of the most exciting new developments in comics of the year."

The official synopsis for Red Roots reads, "In Red Roots, the lives of a professional killer and a high school teacher are bound by a terrifying, mysterious force." While the synopsis is intentionally scant, it invites more reader curiosity and beckons with the intrigue of the unknown. Image Comics also notes that Red Roots #1 will be available across many digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.

What's Next For Robert Kirkman?

Much like de Felici, Kirkman has been keeping himself immensely busy. Outside the Energon Universe marching on and introducing exciting new crossovers, the comic book visionary has given an update on the yet-to-be-seen Invincible live-action adaptation.

"That is, I guess, something in and of itself," Kirkman said to Screen Rant's Liam Crowley. "But yeah, it's definitely a long process, and it's something that, hopefully, will come together sooner rather than later. But our focus right now is on the show and making sure that the show is all it can be. But yeah, there's certainly movement here and there behind the scenes, but nothing that we can reveal just yet."

With Invincible Season 4 finally reaching small screens, audiences are eager to know exactly when the confirmation of Season 5 will potentially be announced. "We're pretty far into Season 5, so we feel like we're in good shape," Kirkman said to Collider. When pressed about an exact release window, he said, "I think that a pattern has formed, but I can't confirm anything. Maybe it will be April. Maybe May. Maybe January. I don't know. Who knows? We'll see. But I would say that the goal is to come back in this general timeframe."

Red Roots #1 releases on April 29.
