Luke Cage is officially taking center stage in the next Marvel Crime Novel, and it sounds incredible.
Per a press release from Marvel, fan-favorite hero Luke Cage will be following in the footsteps of Jessica Jones and Daredevil by starring in his very own Marvel Crime Novel. Written by bestselling author of King of Ashes S.A. Cosby, Truth to Power: A Luke Cage Marvel Crime Novel will drop readers into a brand-new, thrilling story that will see the titular hero travel from New York City to rural Virginia and back again in the pursuit of justice.
Truth to Power: A Luke Cage Marvel Crime Novel
The official solicit synopsis for Truth to Power: A Luke Cage Marvel Crime Novel from Marvel reads, "With advanced cybernetics showing up in the possession of low-level criminals, Luke Cage is hired to investigate a factory manufacturing medical devices in rural Virginia. Leaving Jessica Jones during a delicate moment in their relationship, he makes plans to travel south but is devastated to learn that a cousin who scoped out the plant for him has been found dead."
"The police report states it was an accident. But Luke has long known that official words are just that: words... As Luke uncovers a conspiracy reaching to the county line and beyond, a persistent evil begins to take hold of the town, leaving Luke to hope that his unbreakable skin will protect him long enough to protect others and bring an end to the hate threatening to engulf the nation."
Author S.A. Cosby discussed bringing Luke Cage to such a rural setting, stating, "Well, one truth in America is that if you’re Black, you are viewed and treated in certain ways, no matter where you lay your head. For me, seeing Luke navigate this reality away from a place that viewed him as its hero was really exciting."
The Marvel Crime Novel series began in March with the release of Breaking the Dark: A Jessica Jones Marvel Crime Novel by A Friend of the Family author Lisa Jewell. Breaking the Dark was met with largely positive reviews upon its release, with the novel currently boasting a 3.64/5 rating via review aggregator Goodreads, as averaged across more than 2,380 reviews and nearly 15,000 ratings.
Just ahead of the release of Truth to Power, readers can look forward to the release of the series' second entry, Enemy of My Enemy: A Daredevil Marvel Crime Novel by the critically acclaimed writer and artist Alex Segura. Segura's previous novel, 2023's Secret Identity, was nominated for four separate major industry awards, all on top of winning the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Mystery/Thriller that very same year.
Truth to Power: A Luke Cage Marvel Crime Novel by S.A. Cosby goes on sale July 28, 2026 from Marvel.
