The following contains major spoilers for Uncanny X-Men #29, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
The battle for the future of the X-Men's original home is finally over, and the Uncanny team is about to have a new leader to guide them through whatever comes next.
Uncanny X-Men #29 (by Gail Simone, Luciano Vecchio, Matthew Wilson, and VC's Clayton Cowles) sees the ongoing battle between the eponymous team and Oscar Ellis, a.k.a. Perimeter’s army of brainwashed mutant prisoners, finally come to a gruesome end, largely thanks to the efforts of Monet St. Croix. In fact, Monet was so instrumental in bringing about an end to Perimeter's reign of terror that Rogue asks her to lead the Uncanny X-Men in her stead going forward, and there is genuinely no one better for the job.

All this, plus a death at Graymalkin Prison, causes violent chaos for guards and inmates alike!"
Who is Monet In Marvel Comics?
Image via Marvel ComicsIntroduced all the way back in 1994's Generation X #1 by Scott Lobdell and Chris Bachalo, Monet St. Croix, then known more simply as M or Penance, is an absolute powerhouse with one of the most tragic mutant backstories of her era. Born to an overtly wealthy family, Monet's brother, Marius, lost control of his own vampiric mutant abilities to become the dreaded Emplate. Eventually, Marius trapped his sister within her raging, crimson Penance form, under which she operated for years after her debut.
After finally being freed from her Penance form, Monet was able to embrace a new kind of life, not to mention the myriad other mutant abilities she commands. Over the years, Monet has been a key member of super teams ranging from Generation X to the Hellfire Club to the Avengers Unity Division, and while she has occasionally walked a fine line between hero and villain, she has always ended up proving herself as the former.
Over the past two years, the heroes of Uncanny X-Men have been fighting numerous battles across multiple fronts, yet the most important has arguably been the fight for their old home, the former Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Transformed into the horrific Graymalkin Prison in the wake of the war against Orchis, Graymalkin has been home to some of the X-Men's worst enemies in recent years, including Doctor Corina Ellis and the undying, reality-bending menace known as Perimeter.
