Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe still have a year to wait until the next Avengers movie hits theaters. However, ahead of Avengers: Doomsday’s Dec. 18, 2026, debut, Marvel Studios has announced a theatrical re-release of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios will bring Avengers: Endgame back to movie theaters on Sept. 25, 2026, giving fans just under two months to see it before Avengers: Doomsday premieres. Both Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Doomsday come from directors Joe and Anthony Russo.

The emotional Avengers: Endgame features Robert Downey Jr.’s final turn as Tony Stark. The movie earned nearly $2.8 billion worldwide when it was released in 2019, per Box Office Mojo. It had a budget of around $350 million. It also has the honor of being the second-highest-grossing film of all time in the United States, earning $858 million domestically. Endgame is in second place behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which earned $937 million domestically.

Avengers: Endgame was beloved by both critics and audiences and is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 94% critic score. It also has a respectable 90% audience score with more than 50,000 fan ratings.

Doomsday will see the return of Downey Jr., but in a completely different role. Instead of the good guy fans are used to with Tony Stark/Iron Man, Downey Jr. will be portraying the villainous Doctor Doom. Doomsday is also bringing back a star-studded lineup of Marvel favorites, including the cast of movies like Thunderbolts*, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and X-Men.

When Can Fans Expect An Avengers: Doomsday Trailer to Arrive?

Production on Avengers: Doomsday officially wrapped earlier this year, and fans are still wondering when they can expect a trailer for the hotly anticipated Phase 6 movie. The latest reports indicate that the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer will likely drop before the end of 2025. If that’s the case, the trailer would come with less than a year remaining until the movie is released in theaters.

In the case of Avengers: Infinity War, the trailer wasn’t released until November 2017, which was about 150 days before the movie debuted in theaters. With Avengers: Endgame, the time between the first trailer and the film’s theatrical debut was even less. The first Avengers: Endgame trailer came about 140 days before the film hit theaters.

Marvel head Kevin Feige, in a 2024 appearance at CinemaCon, stressed the importance of seeing movies in theaters, which could explain Avengers: Endgame’s upcoming re-release. “We make movies for movie theaters because that’s where movies belong. That’s all we’ve ever done, and that’s all I hope we ever do,” Feige said at that time.

Channing Tatum, who will reprise his Gambit role from Deadpool & Wolverine, in Avengers: Doomsday, hinted about what fans can expect during a previous interview. “Look, everyone in the world is going to see this movie,” Tatum said.

“And it's hard to say this because, I mean, you hear these things and go, 'Of course'. But they've topped themselves every time. This will be the biggest movie of next year and maybe even the next 10 years. I'm not good enough with words to explain how big this movie will be,” he said. "I do so much action in this movie, but that was just a small part," he recalled. “I am very, very happy with how Gambit is going,” Tatum teased.

Avengers: Endgame will be re-released in theaters on Sept. 25, 2026. Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on Dec. 18, 2026.
