Marvel Comics' latest teaser for Armageddon turns one hero's personal mantra on its head in horrifying fashion.
As seen in a Feb. 19 social media post from an official Marvel Comics account, the upcoming Armageddon event will see the rise of a seemingly unstoppable threat, as well as what looks to be a soul-crushing experience for some of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. The post showcases two images, one featuring an ominous figure rising against the words "With great power," while the second features Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Captain Marvel slowly crumbling away against "Great responsibility."
Armageddon was first teased back in October 2025 with another striking black-on-red illustration featuring a caped figure holding one of the Ultimate Universe's Origin Boxes. The image was emblazoned with the words "Witness the origin of the end," implying that those who find themselves in possession of one of the Origin Boxes won't step into the roles of the heroes they were intended to become.
The events of Armageddon are set to spin out of writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Valerio Schiti's ongoing Captain America series, as well as those of Marvel Comics' Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion by writers Cody Ziglar and Deniz Camp and artist Jonash Scharf. During Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #5, Miles Morales escaped back to the primary Marvel Universe with at least one Origin Box in tow.
What are Origin Boxes in Marvel Comics?
Image via Marvel ComicsThe Origin Boxes, or Stark Boxes, were first seen in the pages of 2024's Ultimate Spider-Man #1 by Jonathan Hickman and Marco Checchetto. These Origin Boxes were designed and created by Tony Stark and Reed Richards of Earth-6160, better known as Iron Lad and Doom, respectively, in the hopes of giving rise to the heroes whom the Maker saw fit to preemptively cut down before their time.
Over the course of two years, numerous characters received their Origin Boxes, including Peter Parker, Luke Cage, Hank Pym, and Janet Van Dyne. While this project allowed these figures and others to step into the roles they were always meant to, it also gave others the opportunity to take on powers never meant for them, or worse, to use those powers to become part of the Maker's villainous army.
Though it was Miles Morales who brought the Origin Boxes back to the prime Marvel Universe, it looks to be Steve Rogers who finds himself racing against time to keep them (or something worse) from falling into the wrong hands. The official solicit synopsis for Captain America #10 from Marvel Comics reads, "UNITED THEY FALL ON THE ROAD TO ARMAGEDDON!"
"A shocking betrayal leaves Captain America's S.H.I.E.L.D. team at odds — just in time for Doom's ultimate weapon to be dragged into the light. But it's not what anyone thought it was, and as an all-out feeding frenzy ignites between Salvation, Red Hulk, and S.H.I.E.L.D., it's up to Steve to get his hands on the weapon before it's too late!"
Marvel Comics' Armageddon Assembles is slated to begin in June.
