Posted on January 30, 2026 by Neil Cole

The Muskegon Museum of Art will present "POW! The Art of Comics", a visually striking exhibition that explores the artistic evolution and cultural impact of comic books and graphic storytelling. The exhibition opens to the public on February 5, 2026, and will be on view through May 17, 2026.

The exhibition showcases more than a century of comic art, featuring over 100 original drawings spanning from the 1960s through the early 2000s. Visitors will experience the creative process behind iconic characters and storylines while gaining insight into how comic art has influenced modern film, television, and popular culture. In addition to original comic artwork, the exhibition includes concept art from major Hollywood and science fiction productions, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the transition from illustration to screen.

POW! The Art of Comics also features an array of notable artifacts and props that bring beloved characters to life. Highlights include a classic Adam West Batman costume, a Magneto helmet, and detailed recreations of the 1989 Batmobile and Batsuit. These elements provide visitors with an immersive connection to the legacy of comic storytelling across multiple generations.

Interactive components are integrated throughout the exhibition, encouraging hands-on engagement and making the experience accessible to visitors of all ages. The exhibition emphasizes not only the artistry behind comics but also their ability to inspire creativity, imagination, and heroism.

The opening of the exhibition will be celebrated with a Community of Heroes Celebration on Thursday, February 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The event recognizes everyday heroes within the community, including first responders and their families, and features art, music, and special programming tied to the exhibition's themes.

The Muskegon Museum of Art invites art lovers, families, and comic enthusiasts to experience this dynamic exhibition that honors one of the most influential visual art forms of the modern era.
