This series began with Punisher killing Stilt Man. Fittingly, Matt Fraction takes us out with a Christmas issue about a bunch of thugs who get the surprise gift of Silt-Man’s armor and fight about who gets to take on the deceased villain’s identity.
Rhino has been a key figure in this FANTASTIC 616 version of Punisher, and he shows up, too, in a Santa hat. He talks Punisher out of killing the three thugs because they haven’t actually committed any crimes yet.
And Punisher walks away. That’s the end of one of the most violent mainstream Marvel series of all time–one that literally killed dozens of D-list supervillains. Brilliant.
With this, Rick Remender will take over the main Punisher title and will take Frank Castle places where he’s truly never gone before. Seriously. And this is a character who has been both a black man and an angel.
