What’s better than one event? Why, two of course! This issue attempts to bridge between the Secret Invasion linewide event to the Dark Reign linewide event. Although Dark Reign is really more of a “phase” or “era” than an event, because it’s not focused on a single storyline’s impact on the 616 Universe but rather is just a period of time when heroes became villains and vice-versa.
Norman Osborn forms a “Dark Illuminati” made up of heavy hitters who are counterparts to the prior Illuminati. Emma Frost sits for Professor X. Doom for Reed Richards. Namor for, well, Namor.
Hood and Loki round out the outcast and magic elements previously repped by Black Bolt and Doctor Strange, respectively. And finally, at the helm, Norman Osborn unseats Iron Man.
This is a Brian Michael Bendis script, so the interpersonal moments are the best ones.
Like Doom and Sub-Mariner’s greater plan to betray the Dark Illuminati.
Towards the end, Norman Osborn kills Swordsman.
Not sure why that didn’t happen in Thunderbolts.
