“The Night Of The Mummy!”

It lives! Deep inside the Amazon rainforest, Professor Zane and his workforce have unearthed the only known Mummy specimen ever buried in a Mayan temple. Now the corpse has begun attacking the dig site along with the Professor’s guest, Margo Lane. But if that isn’t enough, a supernatural voice rings out, commanding the Mummy to yield. It’s the infamous Shadow!

In the concrete jungle known as New York City, the Shadow casts fear into the hearts of men. Against an undead adversary in the wilds of South America, however, things may not go so easily. This monster is no petty crime boss wielding a stub-nose 38. No, it is evil incarnate!

Will the Shadow save Professor Eustace Zane and Margo Lane from the Mayan curse? How did Lamont Cranston reach New York City before the Archeologists? Can the Shadow rally his agents before the murders begin again? Collect the series to find out!

Review

The Shadow is hands down my favorite superhero character of all time. Sorry, Benjamin Grimm. The orange rocky skin is cool and everything, but it’s no fedora and a set of chrome-plated 45 automatics. Plus, the catchphrase count is much higher.

In 1973, DC Comics released their first Shadow title to a much different audience born decades past the original target market. Unfortunately, the series would only last twelve issues before Writer and Editor Dennis O’Neil pulled the plug. It’s a shame. The writing was solid, and the art was amazing throughout the entire run. For true fans of the Shadow, these books would be a welcome edition to their collection. I give this issue three out of five stars.
