Patrik Walker is an Emmy Award–winning writer who covers all things Comics & Superheroes. His work can also be found at the Dallas Cowboys, The Sporting News, and CBS Sports, among other outlets. One of the most respected names in his field, he is also a diehard enthusiast of all things comics, anime, gaming and movies — thriving in spaces where discussions involving those or similar topics reign supreme.

Batten down the hatches, Marvel Comics and DC Comics fans, because the two franchise quarterbacks for each universe are officially crossing paths on shelves in 2026. Superman and Spider-Man will embark on a one-shot journey this coming April that will turn everything on its ear, but before the world is blessed with the greatness within the panels of Spider-Man/Superman #1, the new reveal is blowing minds.

Shortly after the calendar flipped to February, only three months ahead of the release of Spider-Man/Superman #1 (and a different Spider-Man crossover to come) Marvel Comics delivered a first-look at not simply the primary cover, but also a slew of variant covers by renowned artists that include E.M. Gist, Pepe Larraz, Marcos Martin, Gary Frank, Todd Nauck, Sara Pichelli, Humberto Ramos, Jim Cheung, Phil Noto ... (pause to catch a breath here) ... Russell Dauterman and more.

And the one-shot is written by none other than Brad Meltzer in conjunction with Geoff Johns, Louis Simonson, Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron, Joe Kelly ... (pause to catch another breath here) ... Stephanie Phillips, Jeph Loeb and others. In other words, and this goes without saying: Spider-Man/Superman #1 is kind of a big deal.

"I've been waiting fifty years to write this book," Meltzer said. "Superman and Spider-Man have affected me more than most real people. I carry them with me everywhere — and our story cuts to the core of what it means to be a good person. I'm honored that Nick Lowe and everyone at Marvel even asked. Just wait until you see Pepe’s work. Get your capes and web-shooters ready."

The sentiment is roundly shared by all involved, especially C.B. Cebulski, the editor-in-chief: "Everyone here at Marvel is excited to be re-teaming with our friends at DC for another colossal crossover, this time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our two icons, Spider-Man and Superman, first teaming up! I can't wait for fans of every generation to read these spectacular stories that our titanic talent are telling, featuring all-new, easily accessible stories about the ever-growing Spider-Man and Superman families meeting for the first time."

Spider-Man + Superman = One Hell of a Ride

Yes, that's a wealth of treasure in the gallery above — Marvel making it rain variant covers for Spider-Man/Superman #1 that contain no shortage of highlight talent. To try and put it as succinctly as possible, here are a few of the variant cover highlights, courtesy of Marvel, and, yes, it even includes another DC Comics cornerstone character, namely, Batman.

  • A cover by Gary Frank, spotlighting his story with Geoff Johns that pits Spider-Man and Superman—and their families—against Mysterio
  • A cover by Humberto Ramos, teasing the Gwen Stacy and Lana Lang story he’s working on with Joe Kelly
  • A cover by Frank Miller, featuring the comic book legend’s take on the armored Superman, Spider-Man, and Dark Knight
  • A cover by E.M. Gist stunningly depicting the titular stars soaring the skies together
  • A cover by Skottie Young where the artist infuses this historic meeting with his iconic humor
  • And previously revealed covers like a Logo Mash-Up Variant Cover presenting Spider-Man and Superman’s iconic logos on the front and Venom and Bizarro’s logos on the back; a Peach Momoko cover representing Phillips and Noto’s story; and more!

As Spider-Man and Superman join forces, their respective universes colliding in the process, Meltzer brings what will be his first full-length Marvel Comics story to life, the New York Times bestseller rightfully having exceedingly high hopes for the project. As you can see, it's an expansive amount of storytelling that will bring in other characters as well, from the aforementioned Batman to Spider-Gwen, SuperBoy, Thor and others who'll have an undeniable impact on the outcome of the battle to come so, come April, you'll want to be seated for it.
