"Superman: The Movie" Screening at Historic Byrd Theatre in Richmond, VA

Posted on November 03, 2025 by Neil Cole
The Byrd Theatre Foundation has announced a special one-day screening of "Superman: The Movie" on Sunday, November 30th, 2025, at 2:00pm (EST), inviting audiences to experience the beloved 1978 classic in one of the nation's most beautiful and storied cinemas.
The event will take place at the historic Byrd Theatre, located in the heart of Richmond's Carytown district. Doors will open at 1:30pm (EST), and as part of the theatre's long-standing tradition, guests will be treated to a live performance on the Byrd's original Mighty Wurlitzer organ before the feature presentation begins.
Starring Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, Gene Hackman, and Marlon Brando, "Superman: The Movie" remains a cinematic landmark that defined the modern superhero genre and continues to inspire audiences nearly five decades later. Seeing it on the Byrd's grand screen, within its gilded 1920s architecture and under the glow of its famed chandelier, promises an experience that bridges nostalgia with timeless movie magic.
Since opening its doors in 1928, the Byrd Theatre has stood as a crown jewel of Richmond's cultural history. Designated a Virginia Historic Landmark and later a National Historic Landmark, the theatre was built during Hollywood's golden age and remains a rare surviving example of a true motion-picture palace. With its ornate plaster detailing, marble staircases, and fully operational pipe organ, the Byrd continues to offer audiences the kind of cinematic atmosphere once common across America but now cherished as a living treasure.
Tickets for the screening are available through the Byrd Theatre's official website. Moviegoers are encouraged to purchase in advance, as seating is general admission and special screenings often sell out.
