The official solicit synopsis for Wolverine #12 from Marvel Comics reads, "WOLVERINE'S ATTACK ON THE EURASIAN CAPITAL! After the devastation in ULTIMATE WOLVERINE #11, Wolverine is out for vengeance! And he's taking on the whole of the Eurasian Republic in this big, bad and bloody climactic issue... who will be left standing?"
First seen in the pages of Ultimate Wolverine #4, the Jean Grey of the Ultimate Universe would have lived a similar life to her primary counterpart fans know best if it weren't for the Maker. Rather than becoming one of the greatest mutant heroes of all time, this Jean Grey was captured by agents of the Eurasian Republic and weaponized against her fellow mutants.
After being imprisoned, Jean was kept in a comatose state and supplied with only the bare minimum care to keep her alive. Coupled with the remains of Charles Xavier, the Phoenix was used to maintain the stranglehold that the Eurasian Republic held over other superpowered agents such as the Winter Soldier, better known as Wolverine.
Fortunately, the Ultimate Wolverine has since broken from the brainwashing he underwent to become the Winter Soldier, and has wasted no time in fighting back against his former oppressors. Along the way, Wolverine has reunited with numerous other mutant heroes as part of the Opposition, including the likes of Kitty Pryde, Gambit, and One, better known as Legion.
As exciting as the Ultimate Wolverine's story has been so far, it is only a matter of months before the series comes to a close, along with the rest of the current iteration of the Ultimate Universe. Ultimate Wolverine is slated to end with the release of the series' 16th issue in April.
The Ultimates writer and co-architect of the Ultimate Universe, Deniz Camp said of the announcement that the line was approaching its end, "It's hard to talk about it without getting emotional. It really is the culmination of everything Jonathan began. Everything from my book and everyone else's book are all converging. It's gonna be definitive, it's going to be big. It's going to be emotional, there's going to be death... It's just wild."
Ultimate Wolverine #12 goes on sale December 10 from Marvel Comics.
