“Thundarr The Barbarian”
Lords of Light! In the ruins of a 20th Century metropolis, a large gang of mutant rat-men force the remnants of man to slave for their own seditious purposes. Under one-hundred feet of river water, the rodent Groundlings send their captives diving for old world technology.
Most never return. The ones who manage to find their rat master’s treasures are only sent down into the murky depths again until their lungs give out. What remains in the submerged skyscraper buildings is anyone’s guess. It matters little to one such slave. He values freedom over sorcery and technology. His name is Thundarr. Thundarr the Barbarian!
Will the mutant rat-men of the apocalypse find their coveted science before they drown the last of their slave stock? Who is the infamous Gemini? Can Princess Ariel and Ookla the Mok prevent Thundarr from becoming trapped by his brash rescue mission? Collect the series to find out!
Review
Thundarr the Barbarian has come to the pages of Dynamite Entertainment in this semi-reboot of the original Saturday morning animated series. The original television show was one of my favorite cartoons, and I’m very impressed with what I saw here in issue one.
All the old mutants and bad guys have returned with Gemini leading the way. When I see his ugly robotic mug, I’m like, “Wow, they’re starting off with him?!” Writer Jason Aaron and artist Kewber Baal have captured every aspect of the original series. I can’t wait for the next issue. I give this introductory book four out of five stars.
