Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.

Since it was launched by DC Comics in 2024, the Absolute Universe has proven to be one of the publisher's most successful endeavors. However, today, Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026, is an especially great day to be a fan of this fairly new canon.

Four new titles taking place in DC's Absolute Universe are hitting the shelves today, namely Absolute Batman #16, Absolute Wonder Woman #16, Absolute Martian Manhunter #8 and Absolute Flash #11.

The latest issue of the mega-popular Absolute Batman, written by Absolute Universe creator Scott Snyder with artist Nick Dragotta, is one of the most highly anticipated comics of the year so far. The acclaimed story serves as the second half of an Absolute Batman/Absolute Wonder Woman crossover in which the heroes go to hellish lengths to rescue Bruce Wayne's half-man, half-reptile childhood friend, Waylon Jones.

As for what is happening in Absolute Wonder Woman's own series, Diana is facing off a new foe in the form of the previously teased Absolute Zatanna. The magic-wielder's emergence marks the beginning of writer Kelly Thompson and artist Hayden Sherman's "Season of the Witch" arc.

Deniz Camp and Javier Rodriguez's ambitious reinterpretation of Martian Manhunter is an Earthly FBI agent named John Jones, who becomes bonded with an extraterrestrial consciousness, a la Marvel's Venom, that helps him fight crime. However, Issue #8 of the Absolute Universe series sees the intergalactic duo experiencing a split as other strange occurrences plague the town of Middleton.

The latest adventure of Absolute Flash, a.k.a. Wally West, sees the speedster trapped in a mysterious dimension that Barry Allen was attempting to unlock before his accidental death. In order to rescue his father, Wally is tasked with finding a way out in this new chapter from writer Jeff Lemire and artist Nick Robles.

These new stories have received glowing reviews, including from the man behind the Absolute Universe himself. Scott Snyder shared his approval of the three tales being released alongside the latest chapter of his blockbuster on social media.

Considering their early acclaim, it is probably a safe bet that readers will be eager to check out the stories that follow these new issues from the Absolute Universe. Well, there is certainly plenty to look forward to.

Absolute Batman #17, which hits the shelves in February, will mark the long-awaited debut of Absolute Poison Ivy. A first look at the new take on the seductive Gotham City ecoterrorist was previously revealed in Dec. 2025, following Snyder's confirmation that Pamela Isley's time in the Absolute Universe's sun was imminent that November.

On Feb. 25, Absolute Wonder Woman will return with a story that sees Diana more desperate than ever. She is forced to singlehandedly take on a team of warriors specifically formed with the intent to destroy the Amazonian by any means necessary.

The ninth issue of Absolute Martian Manhunter is also set to come out on Feb. 25 and picks up where the last issue leaves off. With John Jones and his extraterrestrial partner now existing as fully separate entities, the FBI agent goes on the hunt for his out-of-this-world friend as everything else in his life begins to unravel.

Scheduled for a Feb. 18 release is Absolute Flash #12, which will continue Wally West's efforts to save Fort Fox. However, the speedster will have to take on his own demons to get the job done.

The latest issues of the Absolute Universe are now available.
