Watch: DC’s Dynamic Duo: Swaybox Shares Sizzle Reel Looking for Animators

Swaybox Studios will open its doors for an animation audition connected to the upcoming DC Comics project Dynamic Duo. The Louisiana-based studio announced the event through its Instagram account, stating that fans and aspiring animators can participate tomorrow, on November 15, 2025, with no prior experience required.

Dynamic Duo will focus on two well-known Robins from DC history, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. The film is scheduled to debut in theaters on June 30, 2028. Swaybox, known for combining puppetry, stop-motion, and digital animation, is producing the movie through its own in-house team.

The audition announcement came with a short video that included test footage from earlier Swaybox productions. The clips showed advanced puppetry techniques, including an acrobatic routine similar to movements often associated with Robin, and a fast-paced car chase. The video displayed text reading “Footage from unreleased Swaybox/6th and Idaho films.” 6th and Idaho Productions is the company run by filmmaker Matt Reeves, known for The Batman. The connection raised speculation that the footage could come from Dynamic Duo.

According to the Swaybox website, the open call is only for animators. It is not a voice actor casting session.

Some fans believe parts of the video could relate to a canceled project once in development at the studio. Swaybox founder and Dynamic Duo director Arthur Mintz told DCFilmNews that the studio was working on an animated Catwoman feature centered on a young version of the character. The film was among several projects ended in 2022 after David Zaslav took charge of Warner Bros. Discovery. Reports suggest Matt Reeves showed early footage to Zaslav, who responded positively to the quality but still chose not to continue the Catwoman production. Instead, Warner Bros. shifted plans toward a theatrical release focused on two Robins, leading to Dynamic Duo.

Although confirmed as a DC Studios production, it remains unclear if Dynamic Duo will connect to the larger DC Universe, similar to the upcoming animated series Creature Commandos. Meanwhile, James Gunn’s planned film The Brave and the Bold will feature Damian Wayne as Robin. Gunn has also hinted that other members of the Bat-family may appear, including Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. That makes it unlikely that Reeves will include Robin in The Batman – Part II.

With three years to go before release, Swaybox has time to finalize its animation team and complete production. Past superhero animated films such as Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, The Incredibles, and both Spider-Verse movies have proven that animation can rival live-action storytelling in the genre. Warner Bros. appears to be aiming for Dynamic Duo to deliver the same kind of visual strength and audience appeal.
