“Lo, The Monster Strikes!”

Trapped inside the dungeon of the sorcerer Taboo, Philip Russell currently lies motionless, his soul torn from his body. Earlier in the evening, the maniacal warlock summoned an ancient demon to help transfer the mind of Jack’s stepfather into the mutant creature who once was Algon. Now, there will be no stopping the son of Taboo or his homicidal family!

Then, through an upper window in the basement wall, a portal which marked the end of the courtyard outside, and the beginning of hell which transpired down below; the light of the full moon gleamed pale through the bars and thick glass. Second Night. A spine-chilling howl filled the stonework dungeon and the stairwell leading upwards to the foyer. A werewolf was somewhere within the mosque of the Great Taboo! The question is, where…

Has Jack Russell arrived too late to save the one man he hates for killing his mother? Will the sorceress Topaz fight her father’s mind control and help the Werewolf By Night? What really happened to Laura Russell on the night of her car accident? Collect the series to find out!

Review

This was an excellent ending to the Taboo story arc, and a fresh start for the Russell family. The next stop, Transylvania. Look out, Dracula! An old nemesis is headed your way!

Even though this isn’t a major Marvel event such as the Secret Wars or the overplayed Infinity Gauntlet saga, Marv Wolfman and Mike Ploog deserve many thanks for entertaining horror comic fans. I would also like to point out the amazing color palettes being used throughout the book. Petra Goldberg-Scotese was a master colorist, no doubtaboutit. I give Werewolf By Night #14 a rock solid four out of five stars.
