I know Bishop is a character who is pretty much a one-dimensional derivative, but give this miniseries a shot. It’s pretty good.
It takes place in the future and shows how young Lucas Bishop and his parents were first captured and taken to an internment camp. There, Bishop meets his grandmother who tells him that the world used to be full of mutants until Scarlet Witch wiped them out. She also tells him about Hope, the first mutant baby born after the Witch cast her spell.

His family is killed and he ends up with the underground resistance, raised to believe in stories about the X-Men and Hope.
To survive, Bishop and his sister, Shard, join the X.S.E. and meet Trevor Fitzroy, who is portrayed as a corrupted and conniving member of the security team. Bishop ends up hunting him and, while doing so, finds secret tapes showing that Hope actually betrayed the mutant race.
We also see details about how Witness saved Shard’s life after he body was infected by emplates by turning her into a living, bodiless hologram.

None of this is necessary, but it’s good backstory around Fitzroy and the whole alternate future thing. It also helps explain why Bishop is so insistent on killing Hope.
