Last issue, we learned that Ink was not a mutant. He was a normal guy given powers by a mutant tattoo artist (Leon Nunez). Nunez has been selling these empowering tattoos to criminals and low-lifes. The Rodriguez brothers, who we saw escape from prison, are among the Y-Men (most of whom are just covered by a group tag because they don’t appear very often or on their own). Ink quits because he’s not a mutant.
Concerned about the ability-giving mutant named Nunez, Cyclops sends the Young X-Men after them.

That seems more like a job for X-Force than this team, but okay.

The kids get overwhelmed by the “Y-Men,” who turn out to number 100 tattooed toughs.

After getting attacked by the new, mutant-hating Hellfire Cult, Ink goes back to Nunez to get newer and better powers, including healing powers and the ability to de-power the Y-Men.
Ink’s new tattoo is of the Phoenix, so Cyclops starts to worry that the tattoo actually connected Ink to the Phoenix Force. Afterwards, he quits the team since he’s not a mutant.

This story arc also introduces Alisa “Cipher” Tager. She’s mysterious for now, but she just shows up to bring Ink back to save the Young X-Men from the Y-Men.
