Spotify is rolling out a new verification system aimed at bringing more trust and clarity to music on its platform as artificial intelligence continues to grow. The company confirmed it will introduce a “Verified by Spotify” badge for artist profiles that meet its standards. The move comes as concerns rise over AI-generated music and fake artist accounts.
Spotify said the badge will appear on profiles that show real activity and follow platform rules. This includes steady listener engagement and clear signs that a real person or group is behind the account. These signs may include tour dates, merchandise listings, and linked social media pages.
At launch, artists who are mainly AI-generated or built around AI personas will not qualify for verification. Spotify also said it will use both automated systems and human review to decide which artists earn the badge.

The platform is also testing a new feature called Artist Profile Protection. This tool will give artists more control over their pages and help stop unauthorized or incorrect content from appearing. The verification badge will show up as a light green checkmark with a “Verified by Spotify” label. It will appear on artist profiles and in search results over the next few weeks.
Spotify expects more than 99 percent of artists that users actively search for will be verified at launch. This includes a wide range of artists, including many independent creators. Some profiles may not show the badge right away as the rollout continues. Alongside the verification system, Spotify is adding a new artist details section now in beta. This feature will be available on all profiles and will highlight key facts such as career milestones, release history, and touring activity.
The company said the section is meant to work like a quick facts label, giving users a simple way to understand an artist’s presence and track record. It will appear in the About tab on mobile devices and within the verification area for verified artists.
The update follows a series of recent changes by Spotify, including tools like SongDNA and expanded credit information. These features aim to give listeners more insight into how music is created and who is behind it. The push for transparency comes after an AI-generated song with so-called human-written lyrics recently climbed to the top of the iTunes charts, raising fresh questions about authenticity in the music industry.
